Sometimes you can hear a lot about something without knowing exactly what’s involved. Like, there’s a great new restaurant in town – but you can’t get a table.
Or you hear so much about something, you get information overload: 1001 restaurants to
try before you die! Really?
It’s great to hear that someone thinks something is great, but sometimes you need to be
shown why it’s good, how it’s done, and – especially in the age of 2.0 – how to do it
yourself.
That’s why the round is very proud to announce our second book to go into Labs – Nicky
Hockly’s ‘Webinars: a complete recipe book for educators.’
This book promises to take us into Nicky’s own virtual kitchen, where she shows us in an
accessible but thorough way how we can cook up the perfect webinar – covering
everything from Utensils (hardware and platforms) and Ingredients (activities) to Cooks
(presenters and moderators).
Nicky’s approach is admirably direct – ‘in essence’, she says, ‘it’s about how not to bore
your audience or students to death!’ – and we think that practical advice on how to run
great webinars and online classes, using text chat and video conferencing, is going to
appeal to a wide range of educators.
After all, webinars are increasingly a fact of life for teachers and speakers, and this book -designed for teachers and teacher trainers alike – tells you straight-forwardly how to get involved.
As Nicky puts it: ‘If you haven’t yet attended a webinar, you should. They are a fantastic
free professional development resource for educators. And if you haven’t yet given a
webinar, you could. This book shows you how to give great webinars.’

Looking great Nicky! Wouldn’t expect anything less. Thanks so much for this.
Thanks Andi! Given your BESIG webinar experience, please feel free to give any feedback on this e.g. things you’d especially like to see included, and so on.
Nicky
Gave my first webinar this morning, and now I get to read the book! It’s great advice Nicky, and I love the look of what you’re cooking up…
Thanks Antonia, and sorry I missed your webinar. If you do another, please let me know via FB so I can come along!
Looks great Nicky! I’ve just finished a course on E-Moderating and one of our parting gifts from Maureen McGarvey of IH London was a link to your book. Nice gift! When will the whole book be available and how can it be accessed? We’ve met in Bcn before actually – red wine, Jamie, Roger Hunt and a few others on a terrace near IH after the conference in Feb.
All the best,
Catherine
(I live in Bcn most of the year, but am in Rio for a few month at the mo).
Hi Catherine, – Rio! Lucky you
The book will be available here in The Round by January, we hope. Like all the books here, it will be an e-book.
You’ve whetted my appetite, Nicky. Congratulations on the co-(l)lab-oration with Luke and Lindsay.
Rob
Thank you Rob!

Great Nicky. Really interesting way to explain what webinars are! I am currently working on a small (tiny) project related to moderation focused on mainly webinars and find this info really, really useful as well as your website e-moderation station! (Hope your knee is getting better!)
